About Me

I am a Peter Sheats: A Christian, husband, father, and freelance web developer.  I currently live near Tyler, TX with my wife and son.

I started programming back in 2002 using ColdFusion while studying Computer Information Systems at Palm Beach Atlantic University.  After reading Paul Graham’s essay Beating the Averages, I realized that ColdFusion was my “blub language” and started learning PHP and Python.  I have been programing in Python full-time since 2007 and use Django as my framework of choice. I have dabbled in Lisp and want to completely finish reading Structures and Interpretation of Computer Programs one day.

I really enjoy programming because of the challenges involved and the mental exercises it provides.  I am always interested in increasing my skill and understanding of the craft and that is what this blog is about.  Too many programmers learn enough to get a job and then seem to be happy just collecting a paycheck but never try to improve their skills.  Not me!

Inspired by this list and Joel Spolsky’s reading recommendations and this one many others, I have decided to spend an hour every morning reading one of the recommended books.  I will try to put together a short summary/critique of what I read on this blog.
